Learn Sanskrit through Self Study

Lesson8:

Introduction to Lesson-8

Welcome to Lesson-8. This lesson introduces the student to relationships between persons in a family. In India, one has specific words for specific relationships unlike in English, a word like Uncle or cousin may be generic and not indicative of the specific relationship.

The lesson is introduced through a conversation and a story, much along the lines of the previous lesson with the Grandfather and the children. The story used here is however a very important one for people in india, the story of the Mahabharata, world's longest epic consisting of a hundred thousand slokas.

The story of the Mahabharata is probably well known to the people of the world but we give a  brief introduction to it here. The glossary included as part of the lesson will give Sanskrit words for referring to the relationship between people in a family.
